Here are some tips based on questions I am often asked about how to make great radio:

How do I get a job in Australian Radio?

Have more than one skill to offer an employer: announcing, producing/researching, audio engineering, voiceover, music directing, copywriting and news are amongst the most called for skills. At the moment regional stations are in most need of copywriters (writing ads), audio producers and news.

Go bush, the competition is less for first jobs. Pitch your CV and demo to small towns and small stations to get your start. Go to as small a town you think you will be happy in, but don’t pitch to go somewhere where you think you will not be happy.

Australians prefer Aussie voices on air, but if you are a foreigner there are still off air jobs for you. Most stations will not sponsor a non-Australian to work for them (too much red tape), so you will need to organise your own working visas if you are not an Australian Citizen.
